View Full Version : Mod Posting Template

As with everything when something starts to get really popular and activity grows at a mental rate things can get hectic, messy and also forgotten. So to help combat this and make it easy for you the modders we at TDUc have come up with a Modification Template system that should hopefully make it easy for you you to post your mods and for the members and visitors to easily find and identify them and how to download them.

What we propose is this:

First of all I should say that this will be - like everything - a bit annoying to start with but to be honest once you start using this you'll be right into it and be able to fly through your future postings.

So here we go, how are we to do this I hear you shout, well let's go!

Step #1: Are you the creator or the converter of the Mod?

Basically are you creating this mod yourself or are you using an existing model and materials and converting for use in TDU?
If you are the creator you will be using the Modder' Name tags and if you are converting you will be using the Modder' Name tags.

So once you know what tags you're using enter them like shown below and then enter your name or the modders name between the tags. (note if your name is less than 5 characters add some '.' to make up the space, you can edit it shortly anyway)

See image below for example
http://forum.tdu-central.com/other/modtpl/tduc_modtpl_1.jpg

Step #2: Preview the reply to see the code take effect

See the image below for example
http://forum.tdu-central.com/other/modtpl/tduc_modtpl_2.jpg

When the page has loaded you will see a textarea with some code in it pertaining to what tag you chose. The images below show the 2 examples whether you were the creator or converter the steps are essentially the same just some of the template content is different.

Creator

Converter
http://forum.tdu-central.com/other/modtpl/tduc_modtpl_con3.jpg

Step #3: Click the textarea and the template code will jump into the new reply box! (Note it will replace anything you have entered in their)

If your browser is within the last decade you should be fine with this step but if for some reason the immediate copy doesn't happen you can always do a ye olde Copy and Paste by selecting all the text in the textarea and then right-clicking > Copy then simply right-clicking > Paste in the new reply/post input area.

See the images below for example

The below 2 images show the auto-highlight of the text and the 3rd shows the auto-copy to the new reply/post input

http://forum.tdu-central.com/other/modtpl/tduc_modtpl_con4.jpg

Clicking the textareas above will auto-copy the text into this field ready for you to edit to your Mods own details (you might need to click the aA icon far right to get the code to show in the input)
http://forum.tdu-central.com/other/modtpl/tduc_modtpl_con4b.jpg

If for some reason the above didn't work or you have Javascript disabled then a simple Copy and Paste awaits you

Step #4: If you're comfortable editing bbcode stick to the default view though to be honest you'd probably prefer to click the aA symbol shown below

Most recent browsers have this function available but there may the odd couple that don't support this functionality for some reason. Google Chrome is one example that doesn't seem to support the easy editor option shown below.

See the images below for example
http://forum.tdu-central.com/other/modtpl/tduc_modtpl_con5.jpg

You must leave the default terms as is, however the optional choices are completely upto you and show what you are allowing without having to answer all the time in your thread
http://forum.tdu-central.com/other/modtpl/tduc_modtpl_con6.jpg

Step #5: Preview your details a few times till your happy with what you see, check the image links etc are good and also Copy all the text just in case something happens with the submit. You don't want to have to do it all again when a simple Copy will save you much headbashing off the desk.

Preview until you're happy...

and then submit for the TDU community to enjoy!

Step #6: Job done!

Feedback appreciated and I hope you guys try this and you will find it's a lot easier once you've done it a few times!

Thanks

I'll go back to milking my ferrets, thanks...

Good work, Diab, I'm very sure modders will appreciate this monumental effort you've put into this. My only concern is "Will the potential 'new modders' know about this?" IE, if they don't read this thread, is it available on the new thread create page?

Again, good work!

Feel free to try out the new template system in this thread if you wish to test it for yourself even if you're not a modder.

Cool, this looks good, at first it looked very confusing and how on earth would this be simpler, but then I actually read it haha!

Thanks for making this =) I shall have a tinker tomorrow night.

Wow, nice one Diablo, this must have taken a lot of time and effort, and I'm sure it will help to stadardise the mods posted in the future :)

EDIT: Awww, damn, just seen the other thread with way more posts

As a user who doesn't get enough time to keep up to date with all the mods released here, I'd love it if there were some RSS system that I could check via Google Reader - for all new mods released. Then I could star and favourite ones that I like and grab them later. Creating multiple threads for the same car (different creators or versions) makes things extra confusing.

I can't see why creators would be too fussed with the proposed template - most mod threads already look something like the above - I just don't like the ones that link to foreign sites that I can't read and can't trust to be free of malware.

Most of the members here have received warnings for the same thing (even I did a few years ago), so don't take it personally or anything mate. It's only there to remind you to read the rules.

This isn't really the place to discuss these things either, but you have removed the ability to receive Personal Messages.

Do we really need a picture when putting physics mods here? (actually over in the physics section, not here).
It seems like over-kill when moddifying the default cars
